Privacy Policy
A legal disclaimer
GNE Mortgages is a mortgage brokerage based in Mississauga, Ontario. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information in compliance with Canadian privacy laws (specifically PIPEDA) publications.gc.ca. This policy explains what information we collect on gnemortgages.com, how we use it, and how we protect it. We operate only in Ontario, so PIPEDA (the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act) applies to our practices. In Ontario, the provincial law only covers personal health information, so our general privacy obligations are governed by PIPEDA.
Information We Collect
When you use our website, we collect personal information only when you provide it to us through online forms (such as contact requests or mortgage applications). The types of information we collect may include:

-
Contact and identity details: your name, postal address, email address, and phone number.
-
Application and financial information: for mortgage inquiries or applications, we may collect employment, income, asset and debt information, credit history, property details, and other financial data you supply.
-
Account and transaction information: if you create an account or request a quote, we record your user name, form entries, and any communications you send us.
-
Technical data: we collect certain non-personal technical details (such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited) via cookies and analytics tools (see below).

We only collect information necessary for our business purposes and always explain why we need it. For example, if you submit a mortgage application form, we need your financial details to help you obtain a loan. We do not collect sensitive information (like SIN numbers or health information) unless it is absolutely required for a specific service. Under PIPEDA we inform you of our purposes and obtain your consent when collecting personal data.
How We Use Your Information
We use your personal information to provide and improve our mortgage services, and for the purposes you request. Typical uses include:

-
Responding to inquiries: We use your contact details to reply to your questions, set up appointments, or provide quotes and advice.
-
Processing mortgage applications: We use your financial and identification details to work with lenders and other parties to arrange your mortgage. This may include credit checks or verification steps, with your consent.
-
Service delivery and support: We use your information to manage your account, communicate status updates, and deliver the services you requested.
-
Legal and regulatory compliance: We may use and retain information as necessary to comply with laws, perform identity verification, or exercise our legal rights (for example, in fraud prevention or tax reporting).
-
Improving our website and services: We analyze usage data (in aggregated form) to understand customer needs and improve our offerings.

We do not use your personal information for any purposes beyond those explained to you. For instance, we will not collect data for one purpose and then use it for another without first notifying you and obtaining consent.

Importantly, we do not rent, sell, or share your personal information with outside marketing companies or other third parties for promotional purposes. We will never provide your data to third-party marketing services. We may share information only with parties directly involved in providing our service to you – for example, lenders, insurers or credit agencies as needed to process a mortgage application with your authorization – or as required by law (such as with law enforcement if there is a legal obligation). Otherwise, we keep your data within our organization.
Use of Cookies and Analytics Tools
Our website uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your experience and analyze site performance. Cookies are small data files stored on your device when you visit a website. We use them for purposes like keeping you logged in, remembering preferences, and tracking page visits. In particular, we use Google Analytics to collect basic, aggregate information about how visitors use our site (such as which pages are most popular and how long users stay). This tool uses first-party cookies to gather anonymous usage statistics and does not identify you personally.

Under PIPEDA, even cookie data can be considered personal information, so we disclose this usage here. No personal identity (name, email, etc.) is obtained through cookies or Google Analytics. You can choose to disable cookies or clear them via your browser settings, though this may limit some website functionality.
Data Storage and Protection
We take data security seriously and store your information on secure servers. We use technical safeguards such as password protection, encryption, and firewalls to protect your data. Access to personal information is limited to authorized staff who need it to do their jobs, and they are trained in privacy practices. We also use physical security measures (locked filing cabinets for any paper records, etc.) as appropriate.

We retain your personal data only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes above or to comply with legal requirements. When personal information is no longer needed (for example, after your mortgage file is closed), we securely delete or destroy it in accordance with our record-retention policy.
User Rights and Consent
You control the information you provide to us. By submitting data (e.g., via a form), you consent to its collection for the purposes described above. You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us (though this may limit our ability to serve you).

Under PIPEDA, you have the following rights regarding your personal information:
-
Access: You can ask us what personal data we hold about you.
-
Correction: You can request corrections to any inaccurate or incomplete information we have collected.
-
Withdrawal: You can withdraw consent for further use of your information (subject to legal or contractual restrictions).
-
Complaint: If you believe we have not respected your privacy rights, you may contact us (see below). If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Privacy Commissioner of Canada publications.gc.capublications.gc.ca.

We will respond promptly to any access, correction, or consent-withdrawal requests you make. For any questions or privacy-related requests, please contact our Privacy Officer (using the information below).
Email Communications and Opt-Out
We comply with Canada’s anti-spam law (CASL) for all electronic marketing. We send promotional emails or newsletters only to users who have explicitly subscribed. In other words, you will receive marketing communications from us only if you have given us express consent (for example, by checking an “I agree to receive emails” box). We never add you to a mailing list without permission, and we do not use implied consent beyond the legally allowed limits (e.g. for up to 24 months after an inquiry).

Every marketing email we send will clearly identify us and include a simple way to unsubscribe. You may opt out of receiving emails at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link in the email or by contacting us. Note that under CASL express consent never expires, but you have the right to withdraw it at any time.
